Having just come down from great victory on Mount Carmel where he dispatched 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah, Jezebel threatens his life and for some reason, he is terrified. He flees for his life and yet begs God to kill him. He is suicidal and depressed. Yet God is with him through all his doubts and fears. The message of the church in the wilderness is that God is with you, even if you cannot see or feel Him there.
